Chatanooga

A fictional story in remembrance of the 2016 Chatanooga School Bus Crash. Every morning when I open my eyes, the first thing I see is the small square of bulletin board on the wall.  At the top is tacked a selfie Ava took of us both on our last birthday together.  At the bottom is a photo of Ava and I with our friends.  In the middle of the board hangs an office calendar.  […] Read more »

Eight Fifteen

This is a story about Jada from “Shooting Star”. “Jada, you came!” cries 9-year-old Camilla Johnson as she throws open the front door. “But of course,” I reply with a grin and step inside.  The aroma of a chocolate birthday cake greets me, and I inhale deeply.  Cam takes the gift bags I hand her and drops them on the couch.  As we head into the kitchen, the chocolaty aroma grows stronger. “Hello there!” […] Read more »

When I Come Home

I lie straight on my back on the hard, uncomfortable bed, a thick, white blanket draped over my legs and part of my torso.  A rubbery mask is placed over my face, which smells like plastic.  I stare up at the stars painted on the ceiling. “Just keep breathing,” a woman’s voice directs me. A few months ago I didn’t even know there was a Children’s National hospital here in this catacomb of a city, […] Read more »

Wait, Come Back Here!!! (the Typical Average Boy Story)

I arrived at the church campout all in one piece, which was a pretty great achievement for me.  I suggested to my older brother that we throw a party the next day, but he just told me to grow up, and not to push my luck. At the campout our youth pastor, Pastor Philemon (a.k.a. Phil), suggested that we play a game outside.  Actually, he ordered us to play a game outside so that we […] Read more »

The Little Lost Lamb

Psalm 16:11 NKJ  “You will show me the path of life; in your presence is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forever more.” The little lamb knew better. Most people think that lambs are stupid little creatures, and they are, but this one definitely knew that what he was about to do was wrong. He looked back at the other sheep, following the shepherd as he guided them home, and saw his […] Read more »

The Little Lame Lamb

Revelation 7:17b  NIV  “And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.” Revelation 21:4  NIV  “He will wipe every tear from their eyes.  There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” Once upon a time there was a little lamb.  It enjoyed frisking about, playing with its other lamb friends, and snuggling up at night with its mother.  His mother loved […] Read more »

The Difference (a peek at 6th grade math)

Dedication: For my friend.   I (Mathematicus, a.k.a. Mathematikos) love angle bisectors (and line bisectors), which I learned about in 6th grade.  I also love fractions.  I love especially changing a decimal into a fraction or percent, or vice versa. But this blog post is not about anything but fractions.  I like multiplying fractions, and dividing them especially.  😀  This is about subtracting fractions, though. The subtraction of fractions (you’ll be learning that in 6th […] Read more »

Shooting Star

This story received honorable mention in a writing contest, the It’s All Write writing contest.  Hope you enjoy it!  Note: I have an audio of part of this, attached. I’d never really liked staying in one place for a long period of time.  I suppose that was a good thing, because my family traveled a lot for my father’s job.  But I’d always wanted a forever friend, someone who would always be there with me.  […] Read more »

The Unicorn Puzzle Story, and How I Came Up With It

This post tells of some of the behind the scenes work that I do for my stories.  This one is using the story The Unicorn Puzzle, as an example.  I would recommend reading the story before reading about the behind the scenes work.  This post I have written is to encourage children (and adults) to try writing their own stories.  I have divided up my post into sections, telling step-by-step how I write my stories.  […] Read more »
