December 1, God Promises to Send a Savior

Screen shot 2015-11-30 at 4.47.50 PMChristmas is the season when we celebrate the birth of Jesus.  Do you know when the very first promise was made that Jesus was going to come into the world?  It was a very long time ago, when the world was first created.  Adam and Eve sinned by disobeying God’s command not to eat from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil.  Their punishment was death and eternal separation from God in Hell.  Pretty bad news, to say the least!  But God loved them, and He promised that He would one day send a Savior who would pay the punishment for the sin of all mankind himself.  God said to the serpent (Satan) who had tempted them to eat the forbidden fruit, “I will put hatred between you and the woman, between your children and her children; he will bruise your head, and you will bruise his heel.” (Genesis 3:15)  God was saying, “One day someone will be born from a woman who will destroy you, Satan.  You will injure him a little, but he will destroy you.”

If you don’t know the story of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, this week would be a great time to read it.  You can find it in Genesis 2:4 – 3:23.
