I really enjoy this book by Dandi Daley Mackall. The book is part of the Starlight Animal Rescue series. It’s about a girl named Dakota Brown. She used to love horses, but then she lost everything; her family, her home, and her hope for a good future. When she gets taken to Starlight Animal Rescue, her new foster home. She plans to run away from the moment she sets foot on the animal rescue. While she waits for the perfect time to run, she falls in love with an abused horse names Black Devil. But will this horse be enough to keep her from running? She thinks her only two options are fight or flight, but is there another possibility she hasn’t yet considered?
